Year of Words and Pictures
Happy to announce that I will be part of Carla Sonheim Presents Year of Words and Pictures, a series of online classes that includes 15 teachers! Carla has created a fantastic series of online classes and a wonderful community of artists who participate in them.
I have done two classes with her: Making Art a Practice 1 /Using Sketchbooks and Making Art a Practice 2 / In and Out of the Sketchbook. They're available now for self study and you can work at your own pace. Once you sign on, you have lifetime access to the courses.
The upcoming live year long course is about Word and Image and each teacher will offer a few additional tips on the Facebook page each day for two weeks.
Drawing, painting and writing have always been intertwined for me. I begin to write and images appear in my mind. Writing sparks ideas I often make use of in my art. Or I begin drawing and it gives me ideas I want write about. Sometimes these ideas grow and I begin a larger project like a book. For most of my writing, I create art to accompany it or invite other artists to contribute art. Image making and writing are different ways of thinking and perceiving the world. They are a way of asking questions and sometimes finding answers. It was really fun to talk about all this in the video. Carla and Steve are intelligent listeners who really get it. And they ask great questions!
The year long class is available now! I'm really excited to see it and participate in some of the exercises the teachers offer. My friends Bari Zaki and Susy Pilgrim Waters are also sharing what they do. If you'd like to join us, you can sign up here—😀
