My Life as an Artist

I began my art life at the age of 22 and have never stopped. I've made my entire living with art. It has had its up and down moments but I have somehow landed on my feet and never stopped exploring and making. It was never something I wanted to do, it was always just who I am. I feel grateful I stayed true to that even if I sometimes wondered if I ought to have been more sensible.

I make different kinds of art depending where my curiosity takes me. My main focus is my Pop Art but I am sometimes called away to make drawings or abstract art, to celebrate daily life and nature. Why not do it all? The through line is my love of life.

In my Pop Art and Posters I'm trying to communicate ideas that might lift us up. Many of these ideas come from my long study of Yoga and other spiritual traditions and some come from the simple hard knocks of life. Art is a way to explore, envision, live vicariously and then bring all that back to life.

In my Abstract Art, I am seeking to make harmony or the simple joy in color. I like to create space so we can imagine becoming one with it.

When I was an illustrator, I had many opportunities to draw people, famous and not, for publications. I've brought that forward to painting famous people for exhibition. When painting or drawing people, I try to feel their presence and convey that presence.

Pop Art

I take everyday things and elevate their purpose. I am asking how we might envision more, be more, rise up.

People — Famous and Not

Some of these were illustrations for newspapers and magazines from the time when I was an illustrator, some are paintings for exhibition, some drawings for my own pleasure.

Collage—Mostly Abstract

I'm indebted to Matisse for so brilliantly showing us how to paint paper, cut it up and paste it down. In these abstract and semi-abstract pieces, I try to find harmony and joy. In some, I explore spaciousness and how we might see ourselves in an expansive way in space.

Plants / Nature

I walk every day in nature and try to capture its strength and beauty.
