Drawing Without a Map (2020—
Drawing without looking at the paper, I see more. I forget myself and any idea of achieving anything. I'm just hanging out with the crayon or pencil. They always take me somewhere new. When I draw like this, energy flows through me onto the paper. The same thing happens when repeating an idea like starting with a scribble then seeing what might emerge. Or just drawing from memory and imagination. A glimpse of something in the world around me gets me to pick up my pencil and I love it when I don't know what will show up. Drawing is training in uncertainty.
